Getting Started with Mixxx
Mixxx is full-featured, free, open-source DJ software. You can download Mixxx and begin using it to produce radio programs in minutes. In this video, the basic set-up of audio devices and library are covered. Then we cover playlist creation and recording. You can create a playlist of a given length, start the recorder, play your set and stop recording, and then have an audio archive of your set plus a cue sheet that can be used to stream metadata to WCRS or be uploaded as a playlist to Mixcloud, saving you the hassle of manually creating a text playlist.
Live Broadcasts – Mixxx
If you choose to do your radio program live, you can do so by setting up your show’s streaming settings in Mixxx and coordinating your go-live with Libre Time. This short video explains how.
Live Broadcasts using BUTT
This video shows how to connect an analog source to your computer and then use Broadcast Using This Tool (BUTT) to stream your show live to WCRS. BUTT can also be used to record your set, much like Mixxx can.
Uploading to Mixcloud
Sharing audio archives of your show, if it contains copyrighted music on it, is against the law. Fortunately WCRS has a Pro mixcloud account that you can use to upload your show after it has played on WCRS. This video covers all the basics of uploading, describing, tagging, and providing a playlist for your show. It also shows how Mixcloud links and player widgets can be shared easily via social media and the web.
